Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization founded in 1979 to address low income homeownership. Habitat affiliates throughout the nation work to put God’s love into action based on the belief that all people deserve a decent home.
Antrim County Habitat has helped more than 20 low income families and individuals since it’s acceptance by Habitat for Humanity International on July 1, 1994. The local affiliate currently carries mortgages for 12 families. The Habitat funding structure, along with the hours of volunteer labor and donated materials help families, who can not qualify for homeownership through conventional methods, purchase a home. The zero interest mortgage saves them thousands of dollars over the life of their mortgage. All that is required is low monthly payments, usually less than the family would pay in rent.
