Antrim County HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - 'sweat equity' - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

GIVING TO ANTRIM COUNTY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Did you know that you can give to Antrim County Habitat for Humanity through the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation?

Antrim Habitat set up a fund in 2000 to help fund land purchases. A portion of that fund is an endowment fund. The remainder of that fund is spendable. Both grow through donations, interest and investment income.

Gifts of any size from individuals, families, civic groups and foundations are needed and welcome. They may be made in the form of cash, stock, real estate, bequest or planned gifts.

Also, there is a special annuity program available through the Foundation. Gifts through the foundation may have special tax advantages. For example individuals and businesses making a gift to the endowment may use Michigan's special (GTRCF) community foundation tax credit. The funds at GTRCF are professionally managed in a pooled fund to produce long term growth.

For details on ways to give to Antrim County Habitat for Humanity through this foundation please contact the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation at (231) 935-4066. Their offices are located in the Chamber of Commerce building, 250 E. Front Street, Suite 310, Traverse City, MI 49684

A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

As the 2011 year ends I want to wish all a Blessed Christmas and Joyous Holiday Season. Habitat has received many blessings and we will soon complete the process of another “recycling” Habitat home. In 2003 a home was built on Roberts Road in Mancelona which became available to us again when the family’s needs changed. Curtis and Aleasha Morgan, along with their son Tavin will join the Antrim County Habitat for Humanity family and purchase the home. We welcome this family and wish them great things in the future.

Please join us in our mission of homeownership with your contribution of time, expertise, and building fund support.

God bless and keep you safe.

Bonnie Robbins, Executive Director for Antrim County Habitat for Humanity

The first and foremost mission of Habitat is to address substandard housing. Single family homeownership has been the foundation for this mission but our current housing market has a tremendous impact on how our mission is accomplished.

Please help us find three or four individuals in your community willing to help Habitat with the following tasks:
Identifying future partners, church relations, media and marketing, website, ReStore volunteer (no lifting required), administrative help, and new ideas.

Another key area of need in Antrim County is home repair for low-income homeowners, many of them seniors unable to afford repairs. Antrim County Habitat would like to facilitate a task force to determine what funding and community organizations are available to help address this issue. If you would like to help please contact Bonnie Robbins.

Please call (231) 587-1498 for more information.
